I’m going to Denmark later this year so I’m currently reading a book about the country’s history, which of course includes a lot of stuff about the Vikings. There were the infamous “berserkers” who did just what their name implied in battle. They would get amped up on alcohol and/or mushrooms before going into battle like a crazed, whirling Tasmanian devil with an axe. All this I knew before, but what I did not know was that the word itself meant “bear shirt” (ber = bear, serk = shirt, i.e. a bear skin hoodie) which they would wear into battle to…intimidate? Take on the animal’s fury? Hard to say, they didn’t write a lot down. Per the book, these guys were probably pariahs even in their own communities given their aggressive temperament and general antisocial qualities . I think we can get a lot career advice from the Berserker:
- Dress for the job you want 🐻
- Half the job is getting into the right mindset
- Choose a profession that you are passionate about
- Pursuing your dreams may cost you popularity, but gain you Valhalla
